Farmville Isn't More Powerful Than Facebook, But the Long-Tail Is

Is Farmville more powerful than Facebook? | TechYell.
Mark Nielsen asks if Farmville is more powerful than Facebook.
In short, no.
Farmville is an important part of the Facebook environment, but it is only some of the glue that holds Facebook and the ever increasing engagement rates together. If Farmville were to outright leave today, I would say the effect would be minimal because someone would come along seizing the opportunity to replace them.
BUT
If Facebook were to piss off the long-tail of games on their platform, as well as Zynga, well then...
Facebook will have a problem.
It's the long-tail that has the power IMO, and Facebook is known for pissing people off, it is just a matter of time before they tick off the dudes smaller than Zynga.
