Taggin' My Way To Meeting New People With Simler

Startups Name: Simler

Category: Social Media

What Is Simler?:

Simler is a newly launched social network that focuses on connecting you with *new* people rather than connecting with the same people consistently from network to network.

Simler does this by letting you join and make tags that are based on your interests. Once you have joined, or made a new tag, you can then post various updates assumingly related to that tag where other users can view and discuss.

The purpose behind this thinking is that if you share similar interests based on the tags you create and join, you will meet and subsequently make a new connection based on those interests.

Pros:

  • The overall design of Simler is absolutely stunning and really makes you want to use the site.

  • Tags/Interest based social networking really does work well. After joining a few active tags that interested me, I was immediately meeting awesome new people without any pressure to seek out people I already knew.

  • Simler is not an aggregator which means all content on Simler is original. For those of us who already use networks such as Cliqset, FriendFeed and Google Buzz, the lack of redundancy and Twitter spam is a god send.

Cons:

  • Currently no way to upload media such as pictures, this is slightly limiting.

  • While I find it to be a benefit, some people might find the lack of pulling in your Twitter feed and also posting to Twitter from Simler might be irritating. This, in my opinion, is more or so personal choice.

  • Notifications and updates on active posts are not in real-time like FriendFeed or Cliqset. This calls for heavy use of the refresh button. This is slightly irritating to say the least.

  • Google Adsense Ads actively used, in some ways simply ruins Simler's amazing design.

Final thoughts:

Overall, Simler is a great little social network that may not see wild success, but will definitely see a tight knit as well as dedicated community forming in the near future.

Come join me on Simler and check out what we're taggin about.
