Myspace With Facebook Connect, MTV's Biggest Competitor

Mashable just broke that you can now sign into Myspace using Facebook Connect.

Yah, you read that right and guess what? It is a great move.

We all know that Myspace has surrendered itself to Facebook social networking wise, and this is something they seem to be OK with. Myspace has other properties that are growing exponentially and are hitting all the right notes, Myspace Music and Myspace Video.

Myspace is transforming itself into an entertainment brand, similar to that of MTV, VH1 and FUSE. That is why it doesn't really matter and can pretty much only benefit Myspace by letting users log into their media properties with Facebook. As long as people are socially interacting with their media content, whether it be through Facebook or their own social properties, they are doing their job by growing the Myspace entertainment brand. By enabling users to log in and share via Facebook Connect, Myspace is only making that easier for every involved.

Further proof of this is with their latest purchase of iLike, the most popular app on Facebook. Do you think Myspace cares that their music offerings are now expanded to the biggest social networking on the web? As a future entertainment company, I doubt it, highly.

Doubt me? Go to a rock concert, no one is touting Facebook, artists are still pimping Myspace liberally. Myspace is as synonymous with music as much as Facebook is synonymous with social networking. No one is taking that crown jewel any time soon, Myspace is simply too good at it (much like Facebook is simply too good at social networking).

This puts MTV and others in a very precarious position. With Myspace's focus on music and its 60 million strong (albeit dwindling) community and Facebook Connect, eventually MTV and others will be displaced. Myspace is still a beast to be reckoned with, just in a different arena and guess what? Both Facebook and Myspace can finally get along, and benefit from each other in very unique ways.
