Businesses, Start Owning Your Social Media Brand
Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 6:20AM Recently I read a post by Jessie Morris discussing the fact that brands are now pointing customers to social media profiles instead of their homepages. I love it. It is a great way to reach customers and as Jessie explained, a great way to constantly get people to talk about and see your product. The problem is, the way these companies are going about advertising there social media profiles is flawed.
Currently, many social sites are owning the brand, rather than the brand owning the social site. How are social sites owning the brand?

With this, Facebook instantly becomes the focus. So how can businesses own their social media brand? Simple.

This puts the focus right back on Sony and puts Facebook in second place (as it should be when you are advertising your brand).
This applies to all social sites, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and even lesser known sites (which some brands exist on) such as Plurk.
What are your thoughts on the matter? Should brands be worried that they are giving away their brand to Facebook and various other social sites?
