Why I Rejoined FriendFeed

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I suppose I should’ve written this post like… idk… a week ago.

BUT!

I didn’t, so I am writing it now.

First off, if you didn’t know already, this is why I left FriendFeed. As I said in the post, I would not be returning.

LIES!

I have returned and here’s why:

1. Twitter Sucks

Twitter is good at pushing out content and personal updates, but going one level deeper in conversation makes me want to rip off the screen on my laptop. Honestly, 140 characters is not enough! GIMME MORE! And good lord, can we get some threaded conversations please?

2. I Don’t Belong

I am not a hardcore Twitter nut and I am not the type of person that is like “Hey, TWITTER IS DA SHIT, FOLLOW ME NAOW!!” I honestly just use Twitter because everyone else is there, but I don’t feel the passion of Twitter that many other people do.

On FriendFeed the passion I had for the service was shared by many other people. Anyone who used FriendFeed and got over the initial confusion of it (yes, it was confusing at first) was passionate about the product as well. It’s just fun when you feel like you belong.

3. Hell, I Missed Everyone

I missed my friends. Honestly, some of you I have become really close to me and it is just not cool ditching your friends. So I decided I could get over myself.

4. Realizing FriendFeed Is Still The Internet

On FriendFeed, the community is so tight it is hard to remember that the internet still exists and that means we play by different rules. Personal insults and rude comments are norm and you don’t belong on the internet if you can’t handle it. I forgot that about FriendFeed and took too many things personally when I never would have on any other service. That won’t be happening again.

AND… that’s all I got for you.

Why I returned to FriendFeed *hugs*

  • so much drama! although i use friendfeed, i don't really "get it" myself, maybe it's because no-one in adelaide actually uses friendfeed but anyways, it's all good!
  • lelapin
That Friendfeed is far superior to Twitter there is no doubt about it; why it is way behind Twitter in number of users [maybe even on the verge of becoming extinct since Facebook acquired FriendFeed] is beyond me.
I would not say Twitter sucks, it's just not good at {long posts, conversations,...} but it is excellent, because remarkably simple, as a pool of informations. Friendfeed is the tool working in back office sorting out those informations.
I wish there was a way to cross-friend/unfriend on Friendfeed those one follows/unfollows on twitter [like there features allowing cross-posting]
  • I'm glad you're back on FF. As I rarely use Twitter anymore, I was missing you some. =)
  • Welcome back!
  • The initial confusion of FriendFeed was why I did nothing with it since registering an account last spring. My rationale was that being an admin/mod for various groups throughout several services was less complicated, and (at that time) more satisfying.

The whole Twitter equation still leaves me scratching my head, though. Yes, it's valuable for timely hit-and-run news updates, but do I really want to know what someone is having for lunch? Sorry, I'm just not *that* interested.

Twitter's 140 character limitation is more than an annoyance. At times it's an outright liability, especially if a legitimate contact is in crisis. Wouldn't logic dictate that, at least for DMs, there should be an on/off toggle override on that limit? Apologies, I digress...

I may give FriendFeed another whirl. If it flies this time, blame Holden. ;oD
  • So should we agree with you? Ok, I totally agree with you.
I was a big big fan of FriendFeed and I still because simply twitter does not offer what FF does. Twitter is quite enough to say Hi or Good morning, to share a link (tweeted millions) but here is the limit of twitter. no conversations and the 140 characters as you said are really not enough.
But, as a matter of fact twitter is not FF!! Yes, you cannot say twitter SUCKS and I am going to FF!! there is a good side for each one. on FF you cannot say (Good morning) every minute because if you were my friend I'll delete you directly but on twitter I'll reply and have a good day.
Don't leave FF or twitter and do not use one and neglect the another one!!! Simply get benefits of each :)
Wish you a very nice time on twitter and FF
  • I am not leaving Twitter.

Just think it sucks in general. Personal opinion though
