Google and God, They Wouldn’t Get Along

But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. 6 The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”

I have this weird fascination, I love studying the Bible. While I am by no means a church going person, I find religion to be absolutely fascinating. So what does that have to do with Google?

Well, Google Translate.

Recently, the Google Translate team have been pushing out features left and right, mostly inclusions of new languages. The latest features though are by far the most interesting. These features would be (directly from official post):

Translate instantly: Say goodbye to the old “Translate” button. Google Translate now translates your text right as you type.

Read and write any language: Want to say “Today is a good day” in Chinese, but can’t read Han characters? Click “Show romanization” to read the text written phonetically in English. Right now, this works for all non-Roman languages except for Hebrew, Arabic and Persian.

Text-to-speech: When translating into English, you can now also hear translations in spoken form by clicking the Speaker Icon.

Google is becoming a universal language.

Already, Google is working on real-time translations, sure, you might have to type them in, but it won’t be long before Google takes a crack at real-time voice translations (if they haven’t started working on it already). With the world becoming more connected, tools that translate other languages quickly, if not instantly, are valuable.

Google has put itself in a very grand position with these new features and constant development behind the scenes to be the company that provides these tools. No other translator is near as powerful and no other company has the means to provide such tools.

You think Google is a central part of your life now? You’ve only seen the beginning.

I wonder what God would have to say to Google about this…
